Chess, as we know it today, was born out of the Indian game Chaturanga before the 600s AD. The game spread throughout Asia and Europe over the coming centuries, and eventually evolved into what we know as chess around the 16th century. One of the first masters of the game was a Spanish priest named Ruy Lopez.

His full name is Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen. The chess master is a former five-time World Chess Champion current four-time World Rapid Chess Champion and current six-time World Blitz Chess Champion. His peak rating of 2882 is the highest in history. Carlsen destroyed previous records, held by GM Sergey Tiviakov, who had a 110-game streak between 2004 and 2005, and GM Ding Liren, who played 100 games without a loss.

An astonishing detail is that his opponents during this streak boasted an average rating of 2745, which equals a position among the world's top 20 players.

Nodirbek Abdusattorov is an Uzbek grandmaster who won the 2021 World Rapid Championship and played on the first board for team Uzbekistan that won the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad. He did both when 17 years old, becoming the youngest player ever to do so.

GM Anish Giri is a four-time Dutch champion and a world-class player. He has been ranked as high as number three in the world and reached his peak rating of 2802 on February 15, 2015. Giri has represented the Netherlands at the Olympiads since 2010. He won the 2012 Reggio Emilia tournament and the 2017 Reykjavik Open.

6.DING LIREN

Ding was undefeated in classical chess from August 2017 to November 2018, recording 29 victories and 71 draws. This 100-game unbeaten streak was the longest in top-level chess history, until Magnus Carlsen surpassed it in 2019.
